How NOUN School Fees Are Structured

The National Open University of Nigeria charges fees on a per-semester basis, not annually. Your total fee for any semester is made up of several components: a tuition fee that varies by faculty and programme level, plus mandatory levies such as a development levy, library fee, examination fee, and student union contribution.

Fresh students (first-semester only) also pay a one-time acceptance fee and registration fee when they first join the university. Returning students pay only the standard semester charges.

Because fees vary by faculty, the fastest way to get an accurate figure is to use the calculator above. Select your faculty, programme, level, and semester — the tool will show you the courses available and the applicable fee for that combination.

Frequently Asked Questions About NOUN Fees

Are NOUN fees the same for all faculties?

No. Fees vary by faculty, programme, and level. Law, Health Sciences, and Sciences typically carry higher fees than Arts or Social Sciences programmes. Use the calculator above for your specific combination.

Can I pay in instalments?

NOUN's official policy requires full payment before course registration. In exceptional circumstances, some study centres may accommodate arrangements — speak directly to your study centre officer.

What happens if my payment is not reflected on the portal?

Allow 24–48 hours for bank and Remita payments to process. If it still does not reflect, visit your study centre with your bank teller or Remita receipt as proof of payment.

Do I pay the full fee if I register fewer credit units?

Some fee components are fixed regardless of credit units, while others scale with the number of courses registered. Registering below the minimum credit load (15 units) is generally not permitted except on approved probationary status.
